About the Marathon

When & Where:

The “Truth in 2012″ Bible reading marathon will begin Wednesday, December 28 at 9:00 PM. At that time, Robert and Paul will begin reading at Genesis 1 and the reading will not stop until the end of Revelation! The marathon will last three to three and a half days, totaling around 70 hours. The marathon will be streamed LIVE via East Hill’s UStream channel around the clock. Join us when you can for this live online event, and be sure to commit with us that you will read your Bible all the way through in 2012!

We need God’s truth!

Christianity is in crisis! Our culture seems more hostile toward the cross of Christ than ever before, denying the existence of God and living without concern for eternity. History shows us that cultures crumble when they shift away from the Bible (just ask the former residents of Sodom and Gomorrah from Genesis 19). Hosea was heralding the Word of the Lord when he said,

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you… Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children” (Hosea 4:6).

If we will survive, we must turn to the Bible! If we wish to help our communities and neighborhoods, we must let nothing but God’s Truth guide our hearts and actions to a better life!

God’s Word gives life. Listen to Jesus:

“I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6).

“I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst” (John 6:35).

The sad fact is that the words of life that were given to us lie dusty and neglected on shelves and end tables – what a shame! David understood the value of God’s Book. “Oh, how I love Your law,” David wrote, “It is my meditation all the day” (Psalm 119:97).

In 2012, the East Hill church of Christ challenges you to read the Bible. These timeless words contain the solution to man’s problem of sin. Will you commit to reserve a small portion of your day to read the inspired Word of God? If so, you will be blessed.

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night” (Psalm 1:1-2).

Resolve to read the Truth in 2012!

  1. I applaud this effort. However, I’m sure you agree with me that it’s better to read a chapter a day and understand it than to get on a time table with reading the entire Bible in a year as your goal.

    • We absolutely agree. One who reads simply to say that he or she has read the Bible, without stopping to meditate and understand, misses the entire point of this endeavor. That is the type of information that is coming soon to the “How to Study the Bible” portion of this site. Thanks for your support!
